It may have been the Queen’s Official Birthday but all eyes were on Kate Middleton.
The Duchess of Cambridge participated in her first Trooping the Colour, the spectacular parade that marks the monarch’s official birthday, on Saturday, June 11. The Queen’s Official Birthday is not meant to mark the Queen’s actual birthday (which is April 21) but is rather an official celebration for the occasion. The Birthday is celebrated in the UK on the first or second Saturday of June.
Since Prince William is a member of the British Army, he partook in the parade while Kate sat with the rest of the Royal Family as a spectator.
Kate wore a black straw and feather hat and white double-breasted jacket while she rode past the gathered crowds with Prince Harry and Prince Charles‘ wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Prince William, dressed in full regalia, rode alongside his father Prince Charles in the parade. Later, the Royal Family gathered a balcony in Buckingham Palace at the end of the ceremony to wave at spectators and observe a flypast from the Royal Air Force.
This is Kate’s second official royal appearance since getting married to William in April. The Duchess had her first official appearance earlier this week when she attend the ARK charity dinner with William.
